What is TRON Energy — and why USDT transfers need it
On TRON, smart-contract execution is paid for with a resource called Energy. A standard USDT (TRC-20) transfer consumes roughly 65,000 Energy to an address that already holds USDT, and about 130,000 to a fresh address that has never held it.
Energy is created by staking (freezing) TRX under Stake 2.0. Staked TRX generates a daily Energy allowance that regenerates every 24 hours — and also grants TRON Power (voting rights), which you keep even while the Energy is delegated elsewhere.
If your account has no Energy, the network silently burns TRX from your balance to cover the transaction — currently around 6.5 TRX for a USDT transfer to an existing holder, and ~13 TRX to a fresh address. Over many transfers, that adds up fast.
The fix is to hold or rent enough Energy so transfers consume Energy instead of burning TRX. That’s exactly what an energy marketplace provides.
